Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO WE DO LASER TREATMENT AT DR B SUBBA RAO EYE INSTITUTE?
1) We are using infrared diode laser since 1994
2) Patient pupil is dilated with 5% Phenylephrine eyedrops and 1%
Tropicamide eyedrops, 2 to 3 times at 10 minutes interval
3) 0.75% Propercaine eye drops are used two times with
2 minutes interval
4) Patient is seated before Slit Lamp with Laser equipment, cap & mask are applied
5) Patient is adjusted and retinal glow is seen
6) Mainster lens with 2% methyl Cellulose is applied over the eye
7) Laser aiming beam is adjusted on the retina
8) Spot size, power of laser, time are adjusted
9) 350 to 500 MW, 0.2 sec, 180 micron spot size are commonly used for DBR
10) After laser treatment patient is advised to follow the instructions and then sent home immediately

WHAT IS INFRARED DIODE LASER
This is the highest wave length retinal laser in the world at present having 810 nanometers wave length for retinal photocoagulation of various retinal diseases. The laser will reach from the internal limiting membrane of retina in the chorodial layers. Macular pigments will not absorb this layer and no flashes of light for each and every laser spot and it can pass through retinal haemorrhage also and retinal blood vessels are not damaged by this laser and it can pass through even a moderate cataract also and also no visual field defects occurs because of less damage and less scaring on the retina. This laser works even at subclinical dose, Our hospital is the first infrared diode laser Centre in AP being introduced in 1994
